I
came to LA in Sept. of 1978 to attend Musicians Institute. I was offered
a job assistant teaching when I graduated in 1979. I had been playing
with a local Power Pop band called Kid America, which Im convinced
would have been signed if it werent for the fact that TheKnacks
second album came out and flopped, causing all of the labels to suddenly
abandon ship on the whole Power Pop thing. This band was started by
Lloyd Chiate, an excellent songwriter, now proprietor of Voltage
Guitars, and included Spike Everett Loudermilk , Keith Clark (who
went on to play drums in and manage The Circle Jerks and is now the
most sought after tax preparer for musicians in LA) and singer
Marc Free (who went on to play with King Cobra, Signal and Unruly
Child).
